The Early Years – From High School to Business Entrepreneur
Deb and I met in 1978 while in High School at Southern Senior High in Harwood Maryland. After graduation, Deb in 1980 and I in 1981, she pursued a career in the business world while I went to boot camp and then served 5 years in the US Army as a Combat Engineer. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge I went home to Shady Side, Maryland and joined Deb in the business world. We married in 1987, raised 4 wonderful children who have blessed us with 9 grandchildren, and started working for ourselves.
For the next ten years we worked the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and operated a mobile seafood truck and a retail store. In the fall of 1997 we relocated our family to SW Florida and found our piece of paradise in North Fort Myers. With our families help we ran a successful lawn and landscape business until 2005 when we sold it.
Our Beginning in Real Estate
We can all remember the Real Estate market in 2006-2010. What a better time to get in this business then at or near the bottom. Deb and I did just that. Not only did we have to learn about traditional Real Estate sales we were thrown into the world of REO’s and Short Sales. With the Real Estate market crashing all around us we wondered if we made the wrong decision. Working together and gaining knowledge and experience has allowed us to help many customers achieve their Real Estate goals.
Not long after we received our licenses from the state we had the opportunity to work with a client that would give us a quicker and much deeper understanding of the inner workings of the real estate business. Several hurdles had to be cleared – due to a death in the family the home was left to our client and had to go through the probate process, the tenants that were living in the home weren’t paying rent and had to be evicted before the transaction could be completed. Ultimately, we were able to guide our client through the entire sales process and we were able to make her real estate “headache” go away. The experiences and valuable lessons learned over the course of that one transaction set the stage for us to continue our career in real estate.
Every Day is an Adventure in Real Estate…No Challenge, Goal or Transaction is the Same!
Over the past twelve years we have been on the buying or selling side, sometimes both sides, of a multitude (well over 150) of transactions including everything from mobile homes in 55 and older communities to helping renters who are first time home buyers start investing in themselves rather than paying the landlords mortgage. Our experience also includes helping move up buyers and Grandma’s that want to go back home to be with their grandchildren and dozens of other situations in the “middle”.
Whether the transaction is a difficult one or pretty straight forward we still get satisfaction and take great pride in knowing that we have helped someone solve a challenge or reach a goal.
Moving forward into 2020 we believe the Real Estate market will stay strong as far as number of annual transactions however we expect to see a slight price adjustment as interest rates rise. There will continue to be a need for affordable housing since the projected population for Lee County is 760,000 in 2020.
The Giacalone Team will continue to represent home sellers and home buyers here in Southwest Florida. When you hire us you get over 18 years combined experience and a great network of ancillary service providers to ensure you reach your real estate goals or your real estate challenges are solved.
